8 Lilly Pilly Acmena smithii Plants Trees

Great fast hedge/Screen.

Acmena smithii Lilly Pilly: Known by many names that refer to its ability to screen out neighbours.

Renowned as attractive, fast, thick and hardy privacy screens. Sold by many nurseries with an emphasis on these trees ability to give you a quick living screen to block out neighbours. stating that with these as a hedge your neighbours will begone.

 

A superfast hedge that will grow 1-2 metres per year once established.

 

EACH PLANT WILL BE IN INDIVIDUAL 50 BY 70MM POTS, HEALTHY, HARDY, BEING A GOOD SIZE (15 to 20cm tall), WITH A STRONG ROOT SYSTEM AND ARE READY TO PLANT DIRECTLY INTO YOUR GARDEN.

 

Full sun to 30% shade

 

Will grow best if kept moist and well fed, but will survive medium periods of dry.

 

They will slow down in their growth in summer if not watered and will resume normal rates when regularly watered. They are frost resistant to approximately minus 3. Frosts below this to minus 8 eight will burnoff the new growth and below minus 8 can kill the tree.

 

These varieties can be hedged in at any height you want between 1.5 and 15 metres They will be sent in their individual pots to ensure their roots stay healthy

 

Plant them 1 metre apart for a quick dense hedge.

 

To hedge even faster for privacy, plant them close together at 0.5 metres and them remove every second tree when they really crowd each other.

 

As a single specimen it also stands alone well.

 

THESE TREES WILL GROW INTO TALL FEATURE TREES IF LEFT TO THEMSELVES WITHOUT TRIMMING

 

The lush new growth on these trees is multi-toned bronze and reds that beautifully contrast and complement the different greens of the tree.

 

Lilly pillies have masses of dainty light flowers in spring to early summer that grow onto being edible white, pink andor purple berries. Its berries, although ornamental are also recognised as bush tucker and are used to make lilly pilly jam etc.

Thrives in most soil conditons, growing well in full sun through to semi shade

 

Long living, with many decades of growth, they can be left to grow to their full height or easily contained by regular pruning. Also able to be contained in pots.Screen, Hedge, Standards, Topiary or as single or multiple plantings
