Japanese Box Hedge x 1
Buxus microphylla japonica
Also known as Boxwood

Japanese box are our most heat tolerant Buxus (box) Boxwood variety.

This variety will handle the heat we get in the warmer parts of Australia as well as the cold we get in places such as Canberra, Bright, Snowy Mountains, etc.

Clips, prunes, shapes and hedges well Japanese box is a hardy, compact shrub

Faster growing than English Box.

Mature Plant Size: 1.2m H x 70cm W.

Growth Speed: Up to 70cm hedge in 3 years.

Can be maintained as a hedge from 20cm high onwards.

Preferred Aspect: Full sun to light shade

Foliage: Oval, dark to light lime green, with winter often seeing a dispersal of reds, orange, yellows and browns.

Flowers: The aromatic scent of the small white flowers is another attractive feature of this variety.

Hedge Planting Distance depends on how high you want your hedge.

I work by the hedging rule of planting them 20% closer than the final height of your hedge. EG: For a 50cm tall hedge you would plant them 40cm apart. For a 100cm tall hedge you would plant them 80cm apart. For over 1 metre tall hedges plant them 1 metre apart.

Uses: This plant is versatile, being widely used as garden hedges, pruned into decorative shapes (topiary), in large tubs or bonsai, as standards, or formal and informal plantings.

 Full sun to part shade.

Frost tolerant to at least minus 12 degrees.

Its lighter green accents are often utilised amongst the darker colours of a garden.
