Kangaroo Apple x 5
Hardy Australian native shrubs.
This perennial variety is part of the Solanaceae family, which includes plants such as the potato, tomato, tobacco and eggplant.
The fruit is toxic until properly ripe, as is common to fruits from plants within the broad family of solanums. Before eating its fruit, please do the appropriate research on the many Australian bush tucker sites now available on the internet.
Drought tolerant. Great for xeriscaping.
Once established, this variety will handle long periods without rain, but will also grow well in quite wet conditions.
Frost resistant to minus 6.
Great for containers, edging, embankments, borders, screens, soil erosion control etc.
Full sun to medium shade. For better looking plants, do not grow in positions that receive full afternoon sun in Summer.
Tolerant of poor soils and hard conditions.
Deep green leaves in one or two shapes: lanced or multi-fingered. Young lanced leaves usually mature into 3-5 pronged leaves.
Masses of light purple, five-petaled flowers. A light prune after flowering will ensure a tighter, more compact form.
Yellow/orange fruit, usually 20-30mm long, borne in Spring and Summer.
Height and width: approx 3-4 metres.
