Most hyrangea are deciduous which means that in the cooler parts of Australia they will lose some or all of their leaves in winter and will reshoot in spring.

If buying hydrangea in Winter, they will have no leaves and will often have been cut back to around 5cm to get ready for their Spring growth rush.* During the growing season we sometimes have to cut them back to around 10cm as they grow so fast.

When cut back hard in late Autumn and winter, nd they will reshoot in spring.

They can be cut back  hard to around 5-  to 15cm tall and they will resprout.

*I have not been able to find a copyright free picture of this variety. If you do a google on them, you will see the beautiful purple they develop in acidic soils.*

Important Information

The acid levels in the soil will greatly determine the flower colour of this hydrangea variety.

Acidic soils bring out the blues, lilacs and purples.

Neutral soils bring out the reds and pinks.

Alkaline soils bring out reds and burgundy centres.

To increase acid levels in your soil you can add aluminum sulphate and this brings out the intense Blues of the variety and for the pinks and reds please add lime.

This need to be done before blooms form.

Or you can just simply plant them straight into the soil and just let the natural soil levels determine colours.

We usually have 5 to 10 types of hydrangea in stock, both lacecap and mophead varieties.
