Hydrangea Geoffrey Chadbund Hydrangea macrophylla Flowering Plants
Also know as Big Leaf Hydrangea, Lacecap Hydrangea, Hydrangea hortensia
The plants you will receive will be 10-20cm tall, will be in individual 50mm x 70mm pots, will have established roots and will be ready to plant into your garden.
As these plants are deciduous, they will lose their leaves over Winter and may at times be smaller than stated during the cold months of the year as we cut them back.
Not for WA, Tasmania, NT or outside of Australia Mate!!!
The flowers consist of sterile outer florets which accentuate the inner fertile clusters of buds.
Will grow in a wide range of soils.
Will grow approximately 1.5 metres tall and wide.
They make great specimens inter-planted through gardens as well as growing well in large pots or even as espaliers against a fence or in small gardens.
They will form a good shape by themselves although you can trim and train them to your desired growth requirements.
They can be cut back hard in late Autumn and they will reshoot in Spring.
Beautiful leaves that are lime green when young and then mature into deep green.
You will often see them grown for their foliage structures as well.
Strong and vigorous, this variety, when it flowers, has blossom clusters that can be up to 15 to 20cm across.
Also make great dried flowers for home, art or potpourri.
For best results in Australia, please plant them in a place that does not get summer afternoon sun unless it is a moist area.
Most hydrangea are deciduous which means that they will lose some or all of their leaves in winter and will reshoot in Spring.
Important Information
The Acid levels in the soil will greatly determine the flower colour of this hydrangea variety.
Acidic soils bring out the blues, lilacs and purples.
Neutral soils bring out the reds and pinks.
Alkaline soils bring out reds and burgundy centres.
I do not guarantee ph level flower color outcomes though.
A pH level below 5.5, flowers will tend to go blue, and for a pH above 6.8 a tendency to go towards pink
To increase acid levels in your soil you can add aluminum sulphate and this brings out the intense Blues of the variety and for the pinks and reds please add lime.
This need to be done before blooms form.
Or you can just simply plant them straight into the soil and just let the natural soil ph levels determine colours.
We work hard to try and ensure our notes on the variety/varieties listed are true and correct, but do not accept any responsibility for errors or information that may have occured either by my staff or myself.
