Spotted Gum Trees
Corymbia maculata Synonym: Eucalyptus maculata
Extremely hardy native trees that can cope with very harsh conditions once established.
Called 'spotted gum' due to the mottled effect on its trunk when its bark flakes away.
Fast growing: can grow up to 2-3 metres per year when young, if given the right conditions.
Widely grown around Australia for shelter, firewood, furniture, building, farms and gardens.
Light frost resistance.
Attracts insects and honey-eating birds.
Its rich pollen is recognised as one of the best by the bee/apiculture industry.
Flowers: Masses of light yellow flowers that grow in clusters from Spring to early Summer.
Height: Approx 20-40 metres, depending on soil, temperature and water conditions.
(They can grow taller than this, with some claims of a 91 metre specimen.)
Not for Western Australia, Northern Territory or Tasmania
