Western Australian Native Tree

The plants you will receive in this listing will 12-20cm tall, will be in individual 50mm x 70mm pots, will have established roots and will be ready to plant into your garden.

A small to medium evergreen native tree (or multi-stemmed large shrub) with a spreading, dense, rounded to flat-topped canopy.

Flowers & Season 

Will often flower within a couple of years being grown from seed.

Flower colour: Primarily coral-pink; variants include red, white, cream, or orange tones.

Season: Mainly late winter/spring to summer (roughly August–December in Australia; some flowering can occur more broadly). 

Prolific displays; excellent nectar source.

Attracts: Nectar-feeding birds, bees, butterflies, and other insects.
Good for honey production.

Rough, hard, flaky/fibrous grey-black to dark grey bark persists on the trunk and larger branches (smooth on upper branches).

Adult leaves are dull grey-green to blue-green, lanceolate (typically 8–12 cm long × 1.3–2 cm wide).

Distinctive orange barrel-shaped buds with ribbed bases and long, curved/horned (J-shaped) caps open to large (up to ~35 mm diameter), showy coral-pink (sometimes red, white, or cream) flowers in clusters.

Pendulous cylindrical woody fruits (gumnuts) are also ribbed at the base.

Highly ornamental and bird/nectar-attracting.

Can be grown in large well drained containers.

Growing Conditions & Care
Position: Full sun (best flowering and form).

Soil: Well-drained; adaptable to sandy, loam, clay loam, stony/rocky, or poor soils. 

Water: Drought-tolerant once established (minimal/occasional deep watering). 

Prefers dry summers.

Dislikes excess humidity or consistently damp conditions.

Climate: Best in arid, semi-arid, Mediterranean, warm temperate, or cool temperate zones with dry summers. 

Moderate frost tolerance once established (young plants may need protection; reports of tolerance to light/moderate frost, roughly down to about –5 to –8 °C in some sources). 

Heat-tolerant.
Fertiliser: Low-phosphorus native fertiliser if needed (sparingly); generally low-maintenance and not nutrient-demanding.

Suitable for feature/specimen planting, street trees (especially inland/arid areas), windbreaks, screening, avenue plantings, erosion control, large pots, parks, and gardens.
