Spiny Headed Mat Rush Lomandra longifolia plants

Also known as Long leaf Mat Rush
Family: Xanthorrhoeaceae
Perennial grasses - many years of life

HARDY Australian Native plants

One of our best all round versatile garden plants from full sun to shady.

You will see them used by gardeners, parks, councils, parks etc as it is hardy and very versatile.

Can handle long periods of dry as I have seen them grow and survive the drought in Bacchus Marsh.

In stark contrast I have also seen them grow in rocks and sand banks semi submerged in the middle of streams and at the edges of dams and water features.

Also great for pond edgings.

Used by many people for erosion control as they have a fibrous root system which helps to stabilize and hold soil together

Its green strap foliage at approximately 100cm high makes them attractive and versatile additions to your garden.

It will look after itself once established.

Frost and snow hardy.

Handles the heat.

Attracts birds and butterflies.

Drought resistant.

Heavy clay to sandy soils.

Will grow in a great diversity of positions in the garden.

Full sun to quite shaded.

Foliage is also used in floral arrangements.

Will grow in containers.

Can be fully submerged underwater for flood periods.

As you can see it is extemely versatile and hardy addition to any garden.

Longifolia means "long leaved".

Grow 80-120cm apart as a border or plant them throughout your garden.

Can be planted closer if you want a quicker dense planting effect.

Makes great row plantings.

We often stock lomandra hystrix and some of the dwarf lomandra as well.

Root ball can be divided into new plants every few years.

Can be back hard to 10cm once a year and then fertilised if you prefer a tighter look.

We work hard to try and ensure our notes on the variety/varieties listed are true and correct, but do not accept any responsibility for errors or misinformation that may have occurred either by my staff or myself.
